Mission

The overall mission of the MeDOC Consortium is: To reduce the cancer burden that is obesity-related by advancing our understanding of how metabolic dysregulation affects cancer risk across diverse populations.

Vision

The vision for MeDOC is to support transdisciplinary research using team science that will enhance our knowledge of the dynamics, and underlying mechanisms that link obesity, metabolic dysregulation, and cancer risk. To that end, the Consortium strives to achieve the following goals:

  • Understand the mechanisms of obesity-related metabolic dysregulation and cancer risk;
  • Characterize signal cross-talk between key biologic processes;
  • Develop common measures and methods to support collaborative projects and to advance the field;
  • Determine the utility of emerging approaches to identify metabolic targets for potential intervention;
  • Translate mouse model data to human studies;
  • Develop outreach efforts that can translate evidence into policies that mitigate health disparities.

Values

The MeDOC Consortium embraces the following values (pillars) to guide our work:

  • Openness and inclusivity
  • Trust and confidentiality
  • Collaboration and sharing
  • Continuous learning
  • Compassion
